The Spook Circus {and an odd letter}

This morning, there was an extra spring in my step, some sort of odd merriment.

It certainly wasn't the tea. Something was different.

I ran out to the mailbox.... and looky what I found!

A letter with very old stamps. (Surely they must not send letters with such old stamps!) "Curious!" I said out loud. (Which I do very often, by the way)
So I opened it.
TO whom it may concern, please join us for a halloween party. signed, a Fanciful Twist.

I must mention, I love parties. Yes, yes, it did concern me after all!

A few days passed and I was almost forgetting about the letter until I spotted a lovely red apple on the tree outside. It was red and pretty and wonderful and I bet it tasted sweeter than even candy sticks. ( I was VERY excited about this apple, you see)

The leaves were rustling and red and orange leaves skipped across the sidewalk. The tree gasped "Don't eat the apple!"

The chipmunk busy gathering nuts for the winter squealed "Watch out!".

The birds chattered warnings, but of course, I was so entranced by the beautiful fruit, I didn't even notice the warnings of the woods (much less that a tree was speaking to me).

I reached out and plucked the apple from the branch. It looked scrumptious.

My teeth touched the candy apple. Oh, it was sweeter than candy. CRUNCH!

Then something strange happened. Had I fainted?

All of a sudden, I felt a crawling on my arm.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEK!

I screamed and threw up my arms into the air...

And Mr. Spider flew up into the sky...

But he kept flying! Suddenly a crowd erupted into whistles and applause! I turned around to see giant rats and giant spiders and all sorts of people and bugs and a bat or two in an audience. Where had they come from?

Suddenly a voiced boomed from above,

Ladies and gentlerats, bugs and ghouls... welcome to the amazing Spook Circus!

Introducing the fantastic Mr. Spider. He flies through the air with the greatest of ease!
The daring young spider on the flying trapeze!

Mr. Spider will now attempt to walk the tightrope!

Spook circus? I hadn't gone to a circus before! Oh, how fun! I squeezed in to sit with the large spiders and rats.

Music started,

and the audience gazed up at Mr. Spider.

As Mr. Spider proceeded, the audience cheered and clapped!

Suddenly, he lost his balance...

but regained it and made it to the end!

The tent erupted in applause and screaming!

Now, friends, take a look over here, where the rat tamer will wrestle with a giant black rat!

"Pose for a picture, now."

Mr. SkellyTon will now dance the most wonderful dance craze sweeping Fright Town!

A man of just bones flies into the air in a dance, and the crowd is mesmerized in delight!

Again the crowd applauses as the Skeleton dances.

But suddenly, I woke up, with the gorgeous candy apple in hand.

"Oh surely, I hadn't dreamt that!"  I cried!

But I suppose I will never know for sure whether I really was at the Spook Circus, but I know you believe me! :)

Well, anyhoo, thank you for coming with me on this adventure, and I urge you to visit me again soon for more halloween fun! Really it has just begun! :)
